Cream butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Add molasses to combine.
Whisk dry ingredients in medium bowl to combine.
Carefully add to butter mixture, blending on low speed to form soft dough.
Chill long enough to handle easily.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees when ready to roll out dough.
Roll on floured surface to ½” thickness. Cut out with favorite gingerbread man cookie cutter,(or heart or any desired shape that allows two side by side holes.)
Using soda straw, cut 2 holes side by side, leaving enough cookie between to keep from breaking easily. Carefully place on baking sheet and bake 8 minutes.
Let stand on the cookie sheet 3-5 minutes allowing steam to escape and handle without breaking. Remove to wire rack to cool completely.
String on favorite ribbon or string to desired length.
***Cookies can be decorated if desired. Unembellished cookies have a primitive appeal.
