Being a collector most of my adult life, when an item catches my eye, I know at that moment I’m going to be taking it home. By the time I walk in the house, I have the perfect spot in mind to put it on display or to good use.
This process has afforded me a collection of mirrors, somewhere around 25 of them, scattered about the 12 rooms of our farmhouse. Most are flawed, which adds interest. They are placed to reflect the sunshine or something of importance to me.
I have a collection of vintage coffee pots. The kind you put the fresh ground coffee in the basket on a stem, add water and place on the burner to watch closely so as it begins to “perk” you can turn it down, so it doesn’t boil over while waiting for the perfect brew.
My favorite collection is my old windows. I love to paint on the glass of an old window when I feel a bit stale, satisfying my desire to create. I have windows on my porch that are held between 2×4’s placed horizontal above and below holding them between the porch posts. This adds interest and wonder. I have windows that needed to be rescued, now stacked in the barn for ‘someday.’ As I look into a window or out of a window, it stirs my imagination. What could have taken place on the other side?
In my Simple Stitch Series, while creating my book covers, I chose to use my windows. This allows me to entice my readers to gaze in, become a part of the stories that take you back to a simpler time while tempting you to stay and become friends.
Just so you know, I have more windows and I am already planning the next two covers, so you won’t be leaving anytime too soon!
